Prednáška hosťujúceho prof. Kumara z RMIT University v Melbourne

Srdečne vás pozývame na prednášku hosťujúceho prof. Kumara z RMIT University v Melbourne, ktorá sa uskutoční 6. 5. 2026 o 10:30 v prednáškovej miestnosti Aurora L9-504.
Stručný profil a abstrakt prednášky
Prof. Dinesh K. Kumar is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at RMIT University, Melbourne, and an internationally recognized expert in biomedical signal processing, artificial intelligence, and digital health. With over 10,000 citations and an h-index of 53, his research focuses on developing non-invasive, AI-driven healthcare solutions for early detection and monitoring of chronic and neurological conditions. His work spans physiological signal analysis, medical imaging, and explainable machine learning, with strong emphasis on real-world clinical applications and healthcare systems.
This lecture will present an integrated perspective on the development and real-world deployment of Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) for monitoring and managing health conditions. Professor Kumar will showcase his group’s research on AI-enabled, non-invasive solutions targeting conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and diabetes-related complications, highlighting recent outcomes and practical applications. The session will also encourage discussion to explore potential research and industry collaborations.
The second part of the talk will focus on the translation of medical technologies from research to market. It will examine global trends in research impact, the challenges of moving innovations from the lab to clinical practice, and the importance of user engagement, co-design, and regulatory pathways. Through interactive discussion and case studies, the talk will identify common pitfalls in the innovation pipeline and propose strategies to overcome them. A comparative perspective between Australia and Finland will be used to outline a framework for successful translation, aiming to maximize real-world impact on healthcare and society.
